For better or worse, a potential malpractice lawsuit is often at the back of one's mind in clinical anesthesia practice. This session discusses what constitutes medical malpractice and looks at a few of examples of what may, or may not, be medical malpractice. We will look at the anatomy of a malpractice action and important things to do and not to do if served with a subpoena. Suggestions will be made regarding anesthesia record-keeping and defensive charting.
